Jaden Smith is New 'Fresh Prince' on the Scene

Jaden Smith is following in his dad Will's footsteps as an accomplished actor. Relatively “fresh” in the movie biz, he will be crowned the 2010 ShoWest Breakthrough Male Star of the Year, according to Variety. The organization of theater owners is gathering in Las Vegas from March 15-18 and will present awards to several box office draws.

"Jaden Smith is an exceptional young actor who has delivered a true breakout performance with his portrayal of Dre Parker in 'The Karate Kid,'" Robert Sunshine, ShoWest co-managing director, told Variety.

The spitting image of his dad, the two shared screen time in Jaden’s movie debut in 'The Pursuit of Happyness.' He was later in 'The Day the Earth Stood Still' and is next starring in 'The Karate Kid,' chopping its way into theaters on June 11. The high-kicking flick will be screened at the convention.
